The public is invited to attend an open house on the Commercial Street SE and Kuebler Boulevard SE Intersection Improvement project. The open house will take place Thursday, April 3, 2014, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1770 Baxter Road SE.

A short presentation at 6:30 p.m. will provide information on this project which will reduce congestion and improve safety at this intersection. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions, and express any concerns or ideas related to project design and construction.

The project includes widening the intersection in order to reduce congestion and improve safety. The street widening will provide two left turn lanes on each approach, and a right turn lane from southbound Commercial Street SE to westbound Kuebler Boulevard SE. Additional improvements include traffic signal modifications, traffic medians, ADA accommodations, and other project modifications as needed.

Funding for this $4.7 million project is being provided from two sources:

* Savings from the Keep Salem Moving! Streets and Bridges bond approved by Salem voters in 2008

* Transportation System Development Charges

This project is currently in the design phase with construction scheduled to begin in spring 2016.

Salem residents can now view traffic and weather conditions at 22 traffic intersections throughout Salem.

As part of the voter approved 2008 Keep Salem Moving! Streets and Bridges Bond, the City installed 22 traffic surveillance cameras at major intersections around Salem.

Salem traffic cameras can be viewed at three locations on the City of Salem website at www.cityofsalem.net:

* Under Emergencies on the City homepage

* In the footer of every page, under Services

* On the Public Works Department's homepage

The cameras can also be viewed on the ODOT Trip Check website.

The cameras are housed inside round domes that are mounted to various locations on traffic signal poles: mast arms, luminaire arms, and pole shafts, using aluminum tubing. The cameras display fixed images that are updated every 5 to 10 minutes.
