Dog running loose at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church

Dog running loose at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1770 Baxter Rd SE, on Baxter Hill. Obviously lost and searching but skitterish.

Black/gray dog similar looking to a lab but not the same muzzle.  Won't let anyone catch him but he has been circling the church complex and parking lot all day today, December 29, Tuesday.

Have called Marion County Dog Control but they aren't certain they'll get out here.  In addition, the dog may not be visible for awhile, Appears to be searching for its home.

Stingray News:

Important message to parents regarding dropping off and picking up students using the fire lane out front of the school:  A driver must remain at the wheel at all times.  You may not leave the vehicle unattended or parked.  We must remain in compliance with the laws regarding keeping those areas clear for emergency vehicles if needed.

Thank you for your understanding in this area.

Attendance Kudos:  Thank you so much to all the parents who call in to clear student absences within three days.  This is very helpful in our records keeping and reporting. Thank you.

News from the C-Kiva:

Dear C-Kiva Parents,

We would all like to extend our deepest thanks for your support of our Harvest Party, both in donating supplies for activities and volunteering your time to help.  It was a wonderful event where we could build community in our kiva.  Teachers got to meet students from other classes, and each class got to experience a different teacher.  We appreciate all of your support during this time and throughout the year.  Thank you!

Counselors Corner:

Can Food Drive Update and Salvation Army Field Trip: The Sumpter food drive (November 3rd-20th) was a tremendous success!  The school collected 2, 940 cans of food for the Salvation army. In first place was Mr. Cain's class with 699 cans; in 2nd was Mrs. Naff with 402 cans and in 3rd was Mrs. Platz with 357 cans. Food collection bins were placed in each classroom and posters were put up all around the school to remind students of the contest. Popsicles, pizza and extra recesses were motivators, but seeing the huge barrels by the library filled to the brim knowing that less families will go without food these holidays was the biggest motivator of all.

The 4th graders were able to touch the lives of many individuals and families with a hands-on learning opportunity field trip to the Salvation Army warehouse. In this VERY exciting experience the students got to see how the food bank works and how fun it can be to be a volunteer in the community. Seventy-five 4th graders sorted the food that Sumpter collected. We could see team work and friends working together as they collaborated on the best strategies to get mammoth boxes loaded with food sorted into smaller more usable boxes. Students also packed fruits and vegetables into refrigerators, assisted customers with orders and sorted dog and cat food for use by those families with pets. Many parent volunteers were along to assist the students. The students worked so hard and were so well behaved that Sheri Pratt, the Family Service Manager has asked us to come back next year!!

Sumpter Parent Club Meeting Minutes

Sumpter Parent Club Meeting Minutes

November  18, 2014

Welcome and Introductions- in attendance: Jennifer Koenig, Julia Sherman, Casie Mendez, Chris Cain, Alicia Matson, Krista Young, McKenzie Trautman, Michelle McAllister, Shannon Elkins, Jessica McAllister, Johnny Deblock, Kim Rasca, Erika Kerr, Brittany Springer,Nicole Francis, Faith Branson, Michelle Muth, Mrs. Allemann, Mr. Ochoa. and Janet Prats.

Mr. Ochoa & Mrs. Allemann: Scholastic Weekly Readers Funds Proposal- They requested $2,758.73 to cover the cost of all of the weekly readers for grades 1st thru 5th for the school.  All students receive this weekly magazine and there is a video that teachers can show lessons in class, showing current events. The students also receive a Science Spin issue each month.  Ms. D’Anna added that she loves this and uses them extensively in her classroom.  Students can access the digital issue online at home with a password from their teacher.  Mr. Ochoa talked about what a fantastic resource this is for upper grades.

Off Site Auction Confirmed:  The offsite auction/dinner has been confirmed for Sunday February 15th at 5:30pm at Amadeus restaurant downtown.  This site has been donated to Sumpter PTC by the owner and a fellow Sumpter Parent Alena Stewart.  This facility only holds 80 people so the tickets to this will be limited. A committee is being formed and donations are needed to make this a successful event. If you are interested in helping with this event please contact Michelle Muth or Jennifer Koenig at sumpterparentclub@gmail.com..

Treasurer’s Report:  Jennifer Koenig  reported that $18,514.25 had been deposited from the Jog-a-thon, with expenses of $1,097.06 netting a profit of $17,417.19. After all obligations we currently have $19,381.31. If we didn’t get any more fundraising money this year we could potentially fund next years budget of $17,350 and have a surplus of $2.031.31.

School Report- Mrs. Prats reported that we currently have just under 500 students at Sumpter.  Testing is new this year with SBECK this is common core performance testing. The students have some anxiety about this as it is new. Parents can download sample questions online.

Committee Reports- Box Tops: Jennifer Koenig reported that the Box Tops were counted at the end of Oct by several parent volunteers and it was much easier dividing the counting load by Kiva. $574.10 worth of Box Tops was sent in Nov. 1st and we had another $595.90 in our account from our June submission so a check for $1,170. should be arriving mid December. The  contest is still going on thru February.

Campbell’s Soup Labels for Education:  Jennifer Koenig reported that the Campbells Labels for Education program has added ipad mini’s onto their online catalog so that is something we could work toward with this. Also they have added a Visa gift card that we could use for anything. These labels are now becoming more valuable to the PTC so Jennifer is working on a separate contest coming soon.

Book Fair:  The book fair was very successful. Thank you parents for bringing candy for the trick or treating. The school earned $800 in Scholastic Dollars for our library to purchase new materials.

Staff Meal during Conferences:  This was discussed and the idea of having a taco bar was decided on. MIchelle Muth will be putting out a sign up genius email to all parents requesting food items to make this a success.

Fund Requests: Mr. Lewis requested $280.00 for the cost of buses to take the choir to the state capital.  Jennifer Koenig made a motion to approve, Alicia Matson 2nd the motion and it was approved.

Scholastic Readers:  Johnny Deblock made a motion to approve $2,000 to go towards the readers this year. Shannon Elkins 2nd the motion and it was approved.

Gloria Flager of the climate committee requested $80 for the cost of buttons for the quarterly awards handed out for Math Facts, Attendance, Tardies, and Citizenship, Nicole Francis made a motion to approve, Johnny Deblock 2nd the motion and it was approved.

Other Business- Kim Rasca brought up a question of why don’t we have a talent show at Sumpter. This has been discussed with Mr. Lewis in the past, possibly doing it as a fundraiser for more risers for his classroom. We will discuss more next meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 5:20pm. Next meeting will be on Tuesday, December 9th at 4:00pm.
