River Road South in Salem remains closed, northbound at Schurman Drive S and southbound at Owens Street S and Fir Street S due to a morning mudslide. This closure will remain in effect while cleanup and geotechnical assessment activities are taking place. Detour route is Croisan Creek Road S.

	Stingray News: Important message to parents regarding dropping off and picking up students using the fire lane out front of the school:  A driver must remain at the wheel at all times.  You may not leave the vehicle unattended or parked.  We must remain in compliance with the laws regarding keeping those areas clear for emergency vehicles if needed. Thank you for your understanding in this area.      Attendance Kudos:  Thank you so much to all the parents who call in to clear student absences within three days.  This is very helpful in our records keeping and reporting. Thank you. News from the C-Kiva: Dear C-Kiva Parents, We would all like to extend our deepest thanks for your support of our Harvest Party, both in donating supplies for activities and volunteering your time to help.  It was a wonderful event where we could build community in our kiva.  Teachers got to meet students from other classes, and each class got to experience a different teacher.  We appreciate all of your support during this time and throughout the year.  Thank you!  C-Kiva Teachers   Counselors Corner: Can Food Drive Update and Salvation Army Field Trip: The Sumpter food drive (November 3rd-20th) was a tremendous success!  The school collected 2, 940 cans of food for the Salvation army. In first place was Mr. Cain's class with 699 cans; in 2nd was Mrs. Naff with 402 cans and in 3rd was Mrs. Platz with 357 cans. Food collection bins were placed in each classroom and posters were put up all around the school to remind students of the contest. Popsicles, pizza and extra recesses were motivators, but seeing the huge barrels by the library filled to the brim knowing that less families will go without food these holidays was the biggest motivator of all. The 4th graders were able to touch the lives of many individuals and families with a hands-on learning opportunity field trip to the Salvation Army warehouse. In this VERY exciting experience the students got to see how the food bank works and how fun it can be to be a volunteer in the community. Seventy-five 4th graders sorted the food that Sumpter collected. We could see team work and friends working together as they collaborated on the best strategies to get mammoth boxes loaded with food sorted into smaller more usable boxes. Students also packed fruits and vegetables into refrigerators, assisted customers with orders and sorted dog and cat food for use by those families with pets. Many parent volunteers were along to assist the students. The students worked so hard and were so well behaved that Sheri Pratt, the Family Service Manager has asked us to come back next year!!  ~Gloria Flager, Counselor at Sumpter
	Parent Club News: Thank you to everyone who provided food for our staff during conferences.  Conference weeks are long and the food and drink is a nice way to say thank you for those long hours!  We have confirmed we will have our offsite auction this year. The date for this special event is February 15th.  We will be forming a committee soon.  Please watch for email updates for this event.  The next parent club meeting is Tuesday December 9, @4pm in the library.  We hope to see you there! ~Michelle Muth Parent Club President

Salem, Ore. - Enjoy holiday festivities in Downtown Salem - unique attractions and events, as well as diverse shopping and restaurants. The downtown district offers 3,500 free short and long-term customer parking spaces. More than 1,000 free customer spaces are available in parking garages; well-lit, dry, and conveniently located near Downtown shopping and attractions.

During the holidays, Downtown offers visitors:
� 3-hour time limits for free on-street parking from 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday (until Feb. 3, 2015)
� Unlimited free customer parking in Chemeketa, Marion, and Liberty Parkades
� 30-minute on-street parking spaces for quick visits or drop-offs

Daily parking permits are available for part-time and seasonal employees for $3.00 through the City of Salem Permit Application Center at City Hall, 555 Liberty St. SE, Room 320. For permit questions, please call 503-589-2075.
