Traffic Delays Expected During Commercial Street Bridge Reconstruction

News Release from: City of Salem
TRAFFIC DELAYS EXPECTED DURING COMMERCIAL STREET BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION
Posted: May 30th, 2013 3:57 PM

On Monday, June 3, and Tuesday, June 4, 2013, large bridge beams will be delivered for the Commercial Street Bridge Reconstruction Project. Trucks carrying the beams will travel northbound on Commercial Street SE from Interstate 5 to the project site near Trade Street SE around 8 p.m. Due to the size of the beams, which are 180 feet long, the delivery trucks will be escorted up Commercial Street SE by the Salem Police Department and will travel against the one way flow of traffic between Superior Street SE and Trade Street SE. Arrow boards will be in place to assist the Police Department with temporary traffic changes to allow for the beam delivery.

The bridge beams are anticipated to be installed onto the new bridge abutments between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. During this time, Commercial Street SE, from Trade Street SE to Leslie Street SE, will be closed to all traffic while bridge beams are installed. Traffic will be detoured around the construction site via Trade Street SE to 12th Street SE to Mission Street SE and back to Commercial Street SE during the periodic closures. Additionally, on-street parking between Leslie Street SE and Bellevue Street SE will be affected between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. to accommodate the beam delivery and installation.

For questions regarding the project, please contact the City Project Manager, Brian Vinson, at 503-588-6211.
