Sumpter Parent Club Meeting January 12, 2016 Minutes

 

Welcome and introductions:

Present: Brittany Springer, Alicia Matson, Jennifer Koenig, Nicole Francis, Melissa Wellard, Casie Mendez, Shannon Eastin, Chris Cain, Faith Branson, Noriko Shimosaki, Jane Morris, Katie Metzker

 

Secretary’s Report:

                Faith motions to accept minutes as written, Jennifer seconds the motion, all were in favor.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

                Accounting sheet passed out for all present to review

                Discussion on Parent Club opening up own bank account

Pros:  Ability to accept Credit Cards as payment at events, quicker reimbursement for funds fronted by parents

Cons:  Fees involved with Credit and Debit transactions, full time work for Parent Club treasurer to account for expenses and write checks for fund requests, treasurer would also be responsible for filing taxes every year.

Casie motions to wait on opening bank account until the Parent Club has a treasurer to be in office long term as this will take a lot of commitment.  Jennifer seconds the motion.  All were in favor.

 

Fund requests:

Report on progress for fundraising for Outdoor School:  Student Council recently elected and to help with fundraising efforts.  So far school store has raised an estimated $875 that will also go toward funding Outdoor School.  With that, the estimated total raised is somewhere between $6,500 and $7,500.

iPad:  Mrs. Morris wants to thank the Parent Club and report all of the interesting and useful things the iPad purchased by Parent Club can do.

 

Discussion on Jump Rope for Heart by Mrs. Morris.  Goal of raising $3000.  Also needs volunteers for table Mondays and Fridays to help with fundraising.

 

Discussion by Mrs. Morris about 5-2-1-0 Program.  5 fruits and vegetables, 2 hours or less of screen time, 1 hour or more of physical exercise and 0 sugary snacks and drinks.  Plans to challenge students and to take challenges home to family.

 

Auction:

Rene sent update and thank you since she was unable to attend.  She is in need of someone to volunteer to collect classroom donations.

 

Vision screening for those who volunteered is on Friday January 22nd from 9:15-11:45am

 

School Report:

                534 kids this year compared to 480 last year.

                Testing is coming up, getting kids prepared.  Discussion on testing and procedures involved.

 

Sock-Hop:  Suggestion of changing it to carnival or something that will highlight a different era/decade. Looking at dates in first few Fridays in May.  Please come with ideas and suggestions next time.
